GRANTPIRRIE Artists Lionel Bawden and Maria Fernanda Cardoso have been commissioned by Newcastle Region Art Gallery to collaborate in creating The Newcastle Chest 2010. Inspired by the Macquarie Collectors' Chest, which originally contained curiosities of the natural world, The Newcastle Chest instead houses curiosities of the art world. It is currently on exhibition at the Newcastle Region Art Gallery in CURIOUS COLONY A twenty first century Wunderkammer until 19 August 2010.

The critically acclaimed production, When the Rain Stops Falling by Andrew Bovell in collaboration with Hossein Valamanesh is in its final season around Australia. The dates are: Adelaide 13 October - 16 October 2010 at Her Majesty's Theatre; Brisbane 20 October - 6 November 2010 at The Playhouse, QPAC; and Canberra 10 - 13 November 2010 at The Playhouse, Canberra Theatre Centre

The exhibitions of Mel O'Callaghan, Will French and Sally Rees are in their last days at GRANTPIRRIE. The Gallery will close this Saturday 19 June at 4pm

GRANTPIRRIE would like to congratulate Angela and Hossein Valamanesh who were made Members for the Order of Australia. Each artist has been recognised with an AM for their contribution to visual arts in this year's Queen's Birthday Honours.

GRANTPIRRIE has recently returned from a successful trip to the Hong Kong Art Fair, 27 - 30 May 2010. The GRANTPIRRIE stand featured a variety of work by eight of our represented artists. This was the second time that the Gallery has participated in the Hong Kong Art Fair, this year complemented by a series of exclusive hosted events for collector and Gallery supporters. Peter Adsett's paintings will be exhibited in Taint, opening Wednesday 16 July at First Draft Gallery. The show, curated by Clare Lewis, features 6 contemporary Australian artists who are engaging with the past principles of minimaiism.

GRANTPIRRIE will be closed this Saturday 12 June for the Queens Birthday long weekend.

Scott Redford vs. Michael Zavros will be opening at the Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane on Saturday 5 June. Inspired by Pop Life, at the Tate Modern, the exhibition's aim is to focus on artists that entertain and please their audience. Born and bred Gold Coast artists, Redford and Zavros celebrate contemporary pop and commercial culture through their work. The show will run until 31 July 2010

Present Tense: An Imagined Grammar of Portraiture in the Digital Age is opening at the National Portrait Gallery, Canberra, featuring Patrick Pound as well as Chuck Close, Stelarc, Petrina Hicks and Patricia Piccinini. The exhibition runs from 22 May until 22 August 2010

This Saturday 15 May is the lucky last day to catch Neil Pardington, Francesca Rosa and Sean Rafferty's current exhibitions at GRANTPIRRIE. As it is the last day of the show, the Gallery will be closing at 4pm.

GRANTPIRRIE | Offsite GEARS UP FOR MELBOURNE   Time for something different? Then don't miss our new project opening in Melbourne this August. Launching, 6 - 8pm Friday 6 August out the front of 55-57 Gertrude St Fitzroy, this exhibition will challenge the norm for exhibiting contemporary art.    

Patrick Pound is currently featured in the exhibtion, In Which the Wind is also a Protagonist. The show is on at La Generale en Manufacture in Paris until 27 May.

Maria Fernanda Cardoso is included in an exhibition in New York: Dead or Alive. The show features sculptures and installations by international artists who primarily work with organic materials and objects. Dead or Alive is on at the Museum of Arts and Design until 24 October 2010.

Move: The Exhibition is currently on at Queensland Art Gallery. The exhibition is part of a national project organised by Kaldor Art Projects to introduce younger audiences to the moving image as an artform. The show features Todd McMillan's video, I love you. I want you. I need you alongside other leading Australian artists including Tracey Moffatt, Shaun Gladwell, The Kingpins and Daniel von Sturmer. Move will run until 8 August 2010.

Michael Zavros currently has work in Flying Colours: Queensland College of Art Celebrates 10 Years of Gold Coast Alumni at the Gold Coast City Gallery. Also exhibiting are Chris Bennie, Mari Hirata, Abby McCulloch, Virginia Miller and Victoria Reichelt. The show runs until 30 May.

This Tuesday 13 April at 10pm ABC1 is featuring Ben Quilty on Artscape: Ben Quilty and the Maggots. Following the screening Ben will be online on the Live Artscape Forum from 10:30 - 11:30pm. Ben Quilty and the Maggots will be screened again on ABC2 at 6:30pm Sunday 18 April.

This Sunday 11 April, Arlo Mountford will be speaking about his work in NEW010 at ACCA with fellow exhibiting artists Susan Jacobs and Raafat Ishak from 3 until 5pm.

Michael Zavros has a work exhibited in the upcoming show at RMIT Gallery, Melbourne: Contemporary Australian Drawings 1. The exhibition opens Thursday 8 April and runs until 26 June

GRANTPIRRIE will be closed after Thursday 1 April for the Easter long weekend. We will be open as normal on Tuesday 6 April.

Sam Smith's video installation, Permutation Set at Artspace is currently a 'critics' pick' on the Artforum website. The show closes on April 10.

Hossein Valamanesh is currently featured in an exhibition, Silent Spaces at Macquarie University Art Gallery, Sydney. The exhibition will be officially opened on Thursday 25 March from 6 - 8pm and run until 5 May 2010.

Saturday 6 March is the last day to catch the current exhibitions at GRANTPIRRIE: Patrick Pound Soft archive, Mimi Tong Window to the City and Bridget Currie Natural Units. Being the final day of the show, the gallery will close at 4pm.

Arlo Mountford has been selected to exhibit in NEW010, presented by The Balnaves Foundation at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA). The artists are each allocated a specific space and create work that responds to that location within the building. The exhibition runs from from 18 March until 23 May.

The studio of Caroline Rothwell, in Chippendale, will be open on 21 March from 2pm to 4pm. Caroline will be present and host an informal session with visitors as part of Artists Open Studios during Art Month Sydney. 

Michael Zavros has teamed up with Fairfax and Roberts as part of the Art Month Sydney Window Project. The window installations as well as bronzes and paintings by Zavros can be viewed at Fairfax and Roberts on the corner of Castlereagh Street and Martin Place from 6 March to 31 March.

Also opening 4 March is Wilderness: Balnaves contemporary painting at the Art Gallery of New South Wales featuring Michael Zavros as well as 14 Australian artists including, Louise Hearman, Daniel Boyd, Fiona Lowry and Del Kathryn Barton. 

Sam Smith will be giving an artist talk for his latest show Permutation Set at ARTSPACE on March 6 from 3 - 4pm. He is also participating in the ARTSPACE Open Studio afternoon on March 6 from noon - 4pm. The event provides an opportunity for visitors to view the artist studio facility and meet artists in their working environments.

Sam Smith will be exhibiting Permutation Set at ARTSPACE, opening on the 5 March. The video work restages a scene from La Nuit Americaine (Day for Night) by François Truffaut and explores the multitude of possibilities that editing can offer. The show will run until 10 April.

Todd McMillan is currently included in the XRAY at the Perseverance exhibition at Supermarket 2010 in Stockholm. The Supermarket Art Fair runs from 19 - 20 February 2010

Judith Wright will be exhibiting work in Love, Loss and Intimacy at the National Gallery of Victoria from 13 February - 25 July 2010.

Alex Kershaw's solo exhibition 'One of Several Centres' opens at Performance Space on Thursday 11 February. Through performative interactions with the people who live, work and holiday in Alice Springs, Alex has created a video installation that reveals rituals of everyday life and the disparate voices in the 'red centre'. There will be an Artist Talk on Saturday 6 March in the ClubHouse at Performance Space. 'One of Several Centres' continues until 6 March.

Manning Regional Gallery, Taree is exhibiting Raising the Roof, a selection of works by GRANTPIRRIE artist Hossein Valamanesh, spanning 1985-2009. The exhibition goes from 3 February until 4 April with the opening on Friday 5 February.

Peter Adsett's show Matwhero: Bullet Holes and Bandages is currently showing at Pataka Museum and Art Gallery, New Zealand. The show will run until 21 March.

Caroline Rothwell's work is currently being exhibited at Camberwell Space, Camberwell College of the Arts, London. The exhibition, Lexicon, brings together six artists who graduated from Camberwell College of the Arts between 1993 and 2006. Lexicon will run until 12 February 2010.

UTS Gallery's current exhibition, SNAP! includes photographic work by GRANTPIRRIE artist Selina Ou. Also on exhibition is the work of Alexander Seton, Matthew Sleeth, Martin Parr, Darryn Sylvester, Jon Lewis and Jeremy Park. SNAP runs until 29 January 2010.
